Frequently asked questions

What is a time-of-use (TOU) electricity rate?

A TOU rate charges more per kWh during peak hours (often 4–9 pm on weekdays) and less overnight and on weekends. If you move flexible loads such as EV charging, laundry, dishwashing, water heating and pool pumping into off-peak hours, your average price drops. Full guide to TOU rates.

Will a TOU plan save me money?

It saves money if a large share of your use can run off-peak, or already does. Households that are out during the day and charge an EV overnight usually save. Homes that run AC hard from 4–9 pm can pay more. Pre-cooling the house before the peak and using a smart thermostat helps.
